ONE COMMON CALLING
Every morning I look out the window and watch the cars zipping by on the busy interstate highway. People coming and going just as Jesus said it would be on an ordinary day when he returns. Therefore, we need to pay attention and always be ready because he will come as a thief if we are not paying attention. He said to occupy until he comes, suggesting there's work to be done for his kingdom while we're here.
[Rev 16:15 KJV] 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed [is] he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
[Rev 3:3 KJV] 3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
I took this picture of the billboard sign, though it's a little blurry, the sign says "helping people" which is a reminder to me of the common calling we all have. That is to love our neighbor as ourself.
Christ died for the world not just a select few. We as Christians are his eyes, hands and feet to take notice when we see someone in need. We should give them a helping hand when we can. If we see a stranger in need we can walk over to them and offer a few dollars or give them a tract with a message of the good news of God's kingdom. Hope for their future in Christ.
Sometimes we get complacent in our attitude lacking compassion for the homeless and those in need. At least for me, I had gotten to the point when I would see someone standing at the freeway exit, I would just pass them by, with an attitude.
Sometimes I would give but lately often I would grumble and say why don't they go get a job at McDonalds or something. But then I noticed a few weeks ago this new huge billboard sign staring me in the face at the exit I get off to go home.
Immediately I was convicted in my heart as I read the words, "helping people". Now this will be a test to see that my attitude changes. What I'm saying I don't feel I have to give every time but when I can I should, we all should.
But we can each answer the call to help people in whatever way God has called us to. It can be on the job, at the grocery store, laundromat, gas station, the mall, wherever. A kind word, a smile, sometimes is all that is needed to help someone on the brink of giving up.
I see this billboard as a reminder from the Lord that we must not judge those less fortunate than us and give WHEN we can or WHEN he moves us to in whatever situation he leads us to. The sign uses language that is simple. This blog posting is a sincere message from the Lord and it is just as SIMPLE as the billboard sign. The SIMPLICITY of CHRIST is in clear view for all to see on that billboard sign, and its a message from heaven calling to earth saying, "HELP OTHERS". LOVE your neighbors as you love yourself.
The billboard sign's a reminder that I should leave all judging to God. We are all called to help the poor and needy. That's the ONE CALLING we all have in common. I look out the window and see the highway every day, and it reminds me of God's GRACE, double GRACE. Also, I'm reminded where Isaiah speaks of this HIGHWAY where the REDEEMED of CHRIST will walk.
What a beautiful picture Isaiah paints for us to see in our minds eye the beauty of holiness that will cover the earth one day soon. Let us not forget as well, that we may be encountering an angel without knowing it. Let's do what we can to help others.
I'm working now on my attitude, thanking God for his blessings and most of all for his mercy and GRACE, double GRACE that is!!!! Praise the Lord!!!
[Hebrews 13:2 KJV] 2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
[Isaiah 35:8 NIV] 8 And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it.
[Psalm 29:2 YLT] 2 Ascribe to Jehovah the honour of His name, Bow yourselves to Jehovah, In the beauty of holiness.
