Be Ye Engrafted with the Word
(James 1:21 NIV) 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
The Lord led me to this scripture this morning as I was reflecting on how much I LOVE his Word. First the scripture says to GET RID of ALL moral FILTH and the EVIL that is so prevalent. Get rid of means like throw away, get it out of your sight period. Now, first let me say this is not me telling YOU my interpretation of applying this scripture is what you must do. But I don't watch TV anymore at all. Every so often I may watch the news but that's even rare.. But I don't watch TV anymore at all. I have headline news alerts that come up on my phone screen so I do keep up with what is happening in the world. The Word of God says we must get rid of ALL moral filth and EVIL. I try to avoid all the filth and evil on the internet as well. I work on guarding my eye and ear gates deliberately daily. My feet must be FIRMLY planted in the Word.
If we were to clean our home and say we have a trash bag where we put all the trash laying around, do you hold on to the trash bag and open it up and look at the trash, do you take the trash back out of the bag and sit it on the table you're sitting at. Do you take some pieces of the trash and put it on a plate, then pour dressing over it and eat it. Of course not you say who would do something as ridiculous as that. You insult my intelligence. Friend I'm sorry but this is what we do when we say we are Christians but look at the filth that is on TV. I use to watch it, I was a big fan of the housewives and I tried to stop watching and so I let go of my cable but guess what? I found I could watch them on my computer from the channel's website.
It's only been a few months that I've totally given up the TV but even when I was limiting my time I noticed the programs that were extremely popular and even among Christians because I've seen the comments here on Facebook. UMPIRE (you know what I’m talking about) was one of the top rated new shows this year to air on F_X. I never watched it though I was tempted because let's face it all the lights, music, beautiful and handsome faces, flashy clothes, it appeals to our flesh but I could see from the commercials that it was FULL of filth.
Yes I said it. Hollywood glamorizes filth and we bring this filth into our homes when watching these shows. I use to do it not too long ago myself. So even though I never watched that particular show I was still forced to take in some of its filth if I was not by my remote to change the channel during its promotional commercials. Many commercials are filth. They pop up before your eyes before you can blink an eye. You never know what will come up next. So, do I continue to hold on to the bag of trash in my home by watching my TV knowing that pretty much every channel serves the same filth.
If you say I only watch Christian TV, well how do you get to those channels? Do you click from channel to channel to get to that channel? If so, you are likely to see something or hear something that is filth and evil. The bible says we should GUARD our heart. The eyes and ears are channels to our heart and mind. Whatever seeds of filth and evil we take in is stored inside lying in wait to produce fruit. Enough said about that. I think you will get the picture.
(Mat 6:22-23 NIV) 22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Also not everything served on Christian TV is necessarily pure, clean and healthy food to eat. Some of what is served is watered down diluted and contaminated with the spirit of the world. Whoever is a friend of the world is an enemy of God. This is why I gave TV up altogether. It was the BEST thing I could have ever done as far as my walk with the Lord is concerned and my being able to hear him speak to me.
The second part of the cited scripture says; HUMBLY accept the WORD PLANTED in YOU. The word humbly comes from the Greek word in Strong’s Number G4240 matching the Greek πραΰτης (praÿtēs), this word is often rendered gentleness of spirit and meekness. These are all fruits of the Holy Spirit in us. As we humble ourselves before God drawing close to him, his Spirit leads us. The gentle meek spirit is drawn to the Word of God. This is a major key of my hearing God's voice. I LOVE the WORD of GOD, the HOLY BIBLE.
I read it every day. I've always loved the Word. It's food for the soul. It's PLANTED inside of me. The Word is inside of you if you READ and MEDITATE on it. JESUS is the LIVING WORD. HE SPEAKS to our HEART through the WORD. It is planted, stored inside where we can draw on it all day and night. We become like a tree planted by the river of life that flows from GOD himself.
(Psalm 1:1-3 NIV) 1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither-- whatever they do prospers.
I can hear his voice because his Words are planted inside of my heart. And because Jesus is the LIVING Word he will manifest himself to you when you call upon him. When you love on him in your heart meditating on his promises he becomes REAL to you. You begin to actually SEE HIM within YOU and you begin to SPEAK to him. If you don't hear him speak back to you don't worry, keep doing it anyway. I promise you if you do one day when you least expect it, you will hear him answer you back.
